THE ART OF TRASH FASHION SHOW

APRIL 11, 2003

Queen Ka'ahumanu Center, Maui

A GOOD TIME WAS HAD BY ALL

The MC, Rob Parsons, stands to the left of the models and attempts to pull order out of chaos.  Meanwhile, the models seem more interested in talking trash while tossing around two green Cyclops dolls.

Festooned in an outrageous hat, the MC provided a description for each outfit.  The outfit on the right was particularly fetching.  It was made from a burlap coffee bag and topped with a pile of roasted coffee beans in a coffee filter.  This model had pasted a bumper sticker on the back of his shorts which said, "I just love my bad ASSED attitude" or something to that effect.

STAR OF THE SHOW

The Star of the show was, of course Wilma Nakamura.  She put the whole thing together and was so busy answering questions and distributing prizes to the artists that she didn't join the other models on stage.  Wilma's outfit was made from plastic produce netting, paper bags and duct tape.  Camille's crown is made of 6 plastic packing bags, each one with an R to represent Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.

FINAL TOUCHES

Joy's cousin Shane, visiting from Canada,  graciously agreed to fix Camille's hair just as she did last year.  Shane's creative juices were set afire by the pounding of drums from center stage in the background.  You should have seen the fur fly!  It was like a scene out of the 1990 movie, "Edward Scissorhands" starring Johnny Depp!  When the dust cleared - Shane had, once again, created a masterpiece.

VOLUNTEERS ROCK!

Judy McCorkel and Camille fold brochures in preparation for the festivities while catching up on all the local gossip.

DRESS REHEARSAL

Bob began working on Camille's costume in March, cutting out the pattern and fitting it to the model.  His hard work earned Camille the prize for Most Creative Outfit.
