FIRST CLASS
PHASE TWO OF OUR BIG BIRTHDAY BONANZA GETAWAY
June 5 and 6, 2004
"WHAT'S UP?"
This Gold Dust Day Gecko seems to be saying. These colorful critters were all over the west side of the Big Island and are part of the Kona Brewing Company logo. We considered them to be our welcoming committee to 1st Class Bed and Breakfast.
BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS
Each morning our hostess, Dolores, put together a feast for the eyes. She told us she had no formal culinary training and we tried hard to believe her. After breakfast we went off sightseeing and didn't think about food again until 2PM!
EVERYBODY IS WELCOME
Dolores includes everyone in her hospitality. She puts out fresh papaya for the geckos and other scraps for the mongooses.
IT'S A REACH
These determined beasts stand on their hind legs to get at the best part of the papaya.
This one is really putting his toes to the test.
PALM STUDY
![]()
Camille sketches the palms outside the lanai.
Can you see the geckos in the palms? Our other amusement on the lanai was a nest of young Japanese White-eyes which were being carefully tended by their parent or parents.
